Help your friends and classmates understand just how dangerous distracted driving can be—and challenge them to keep their eyes up and phones down!
Create your own traffic safety content to spread the word about distracted driving. Your project could be a short video, infographic, social media post, reel, poster, or another creative idea that gets people thinking about the dangers of using a phone behind the wheel.
Use these facts to help build your message:
More than 90% of teens and adults say they would stop texting while driving if someone riding with them simply asked.
Reading or sending a text can take your eyes off the road for about 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that's like driving the length of a football field without looking at the road!
Then challenge your audience to think about the three types of distracted driving:
Manual: Anything that takes your hands off the wheel.
Can you think of examples?
Visual: Anything that takes your eyes off the road.
What could cause a driver to look away?
Cognitive: Anything that takes your mind off driving.
What can distract a driver's attention?
Texting while driving involves all three types of distraction.
Get your audience involved! Ask students to comment with examples of each type of distraction, create a "Did You Know?" video series, make a quick quiz, or challenge your friends to share the message.
The goal is simple: start conversations and make it easier for people to speak up when someone is driving distracted.
Complete the challenge and share your content on social media. Take a photo or screenshot of your original post for your submission.
Want to go for bonus points? Track your post's reach and engagement and submit a screenshot showing how many people saw or interacted with your content. The more attention your campaign gets, the more impact you can make!
